When is the EU inspection deadline?
The EU inspection deadline is the last day of the inspection month registered against your vehicle at Statens vegvesen. Passenger cars and light vans are inspected for the first time in the year the car turns 4, and every 2 years after that. Reminders are no longer sent by post — meeting the deadline is your own responsibility.
What happens if you miss the EU inspection deadline?
If the deadline passes without an approved inspection, Statens vegvesen can remove the number plates. Using the car is then illegal, and you pay a fee to get the plates back on top of the inspection itself. There is no grace period, so booking early pays off — particularly because you need room to fix whatever the inspection turns up.

Questions about the EU inspection deadline
How do I find out when my EU inspection is due?
Enter the registration number in the field above and we fetch the deadline from the Norwegian vehicle register. The same information is available by logging in at Vegvesen.no, but here you skip the login.
Do I still get a reminder in the post?
No. Statens vegvesen stopped sending reminders by post, and keeping track of the deadline is now the owner's responsibility. If your company has a fleet agreement with us, we notify you in good time for the whole fleet.
How far ahead of the deadline should I book?
We recommend two to four weeks before the deadline. That leaves time to fix any faults and attend a re-inspection without overrunning. You can take the inspection any time before the deadline — being early costs you nothing, because the next deadline is calculated from your inspection month.
Can I drive the car while waiting for the inspection?
Yes, as long as the deadline has not passed. Once the deadline has passed and the plates are removed, using the car is illegal. If the car received a group 3 defect at inspection, it is banned from use regardless of the deadline.
Why can't you find my car?
The lookup covers vehicles registered in Norway. If the car was recently re-registered, deregistered or imported, it can take some time before it appears in the register. Check the plate is typed correctly, or call us on +47 41 17 32 24 and we will help.
Do you store the registration number I search for?
No. The search is passed to the Norwegian open vehicle API and the result is shown to you — we store neither the plate nor the result.
